Expectations vs. Reality: Turning 20

So I'm 20. I've lived 2 decades on this planet, trudging along, living a semi fulfilling life. I've also thought a lot about what being 20 would be like since everyone says that being 20 is the shit.
But after a day of being into the third decade of my life, I'm gonna have to say that my expectations are not met.

I thought that the twenties mean that I will suddenly become super duper chic like the Youtube style gurus (ie. Clothesencounters, Heyclaire, Soothingsista...), who are all coincidentally in their 20s, and for some reason, my life will be super fabulous. Maybe there will be a duckling to swan transformation in there somewhere too. Anyways, needless to say, that haven't happened yet. Instead, I studied Spanish and watched kdramas, swooning over how attractive the main leads are. Nothing has changed in the slightest.

Aging means auto maturity right? The higher your number, the more life experiences you have and thus the more wise. Turning twenty was supposed to be the moment when I discovered the answer to all of life's mysteries and perhaps even discover myself, save up money for retirement, and invest in mutual funds to ensure that I'll have enough money for my kids to go to college (university). Basically abandon all the angst that plagued my "teenage years" and embrace the responsibilities of being a "real adult". After all, adults don't angst.  Instead, I still cried as I re-watched How to Train Your Dragon for the 3rd time and pondered my future, embracing the quarter life crisis as the clock striked 12am.

In my mind, being 20 means that I've stepped over the line that divides children and adults. When you tell someone you're 20, the reaction that people have (at least my reaction) is that you're no longer a teen and you're actually kind of a grown up. It's weird and sort of unreasonable considering a couple minutes ago, I was still a teenager. Not looking like a full fledged adult human doesn't help the mini internal identity crisis either.

The point I'm trying to get at (if I'm trying to get at any point at all) is that age doesn't really mean anything and I don't know what adulting means yet and feeling like I should is giving me anxiety and the desire to order more wine at restaurants (RIP wallet)...

So maybe when I finished my 3rd decade, I'll find out what adulting is supposed to be like. I will report back with findings. As for right now, I'm going to eat an entire tub of ice-cream while marathoning my favourite kdrama (maybe order pizza) because my metabolism can still handle it.

Chronicles of Cindy the Dubu (Tofu)

Hi there, lemme introduce myself again. I'm Cindy, from Toronto Canada. This June 24th, I'm turning 20 and not excited to do so. And I'm soft as marshmallow.

I have this condition that I like to call (I made it up) Everlasting Baby Fat Syndrome-- it's very serious. The symptoms include:

  • marshmallow consistency on every part of my body
  • lack of/non existent muscles
  • inability to gain substantial muscle
  • a little jiggle of the entire body when I walk
I repeat: it's all very serious.

I didn't notice that I had this condition until grade 6 when my friend felt my arm and suddenly, as if possessed, screamed "Eureka!" (I made this part up too) From then on, to today, my nickname became "Squishy".

Comparisons of the symptoms caused by this condition (extreme softness) have been drawn to the consistency of a boob, water, and most recently, tofu. If I shorten the comparisons then I become the sentient tofu boob made of water.

Previously, in my early days being Squishy, I denied my identity and rejected the idea of being soft. I was insecure and unsettled by the idea of being soft forever. I was afraid of being fat and unfit although I was often reassured that I'm made of water and not that other substance. However, as I grew and matured into an adult, I've realized that this squishy-ness is a blessing and not a curse.

Here are a couple reasons why:

Most importantly however,
I provide and endless source of entertainment for other people. As you can see, I'm very amused:

That girl in the yellow is Yushi.

I honestly think I'll miss the squish when I get my rock hard muscles (from Ebay) after a summer of working out :')

Cindy's Guide to Life: Career Choices

Hey y'all, I'm back with another hater's gonna hate type of post.
The unfortunate part of life is that we have to choose our futures so early in our life. 20 years old and we need to decide what the next 60 years is going to look like. How about that.

Well no worries. Your home girl's got your back :')

But on a serious note, specialization selection and major choice is one of those "every choice you make matters" type of thing gone nuts. It's not going to change in the present but the least we can do is be educated about our choices.

End of this story,
Cindy doesn't understand how to blog and it's 2am in the morning again.

The Wonderful Coffee part 2: Tastes of the World.

I'm back again kiddies with another installment of the Wonderful Coffee Series (aka my personalized love letter to this magical elixir).
This time, we're going to talk about taste and flavors of different coffee beans from around the world (the most common ones ofc).

So let's get it started.. hey!

So I also realized that I didn't quite explain my purpose of why I'm doing this whole edumacation thing regarding coffee. But this is what I do. I obsess over things and as I obsess over them, I feel the need to talk about it constantly. It's annoying but hey, at least this way, it's productive?

I don't know. I really do hope it's enjoyable :')

The Wonderful Coffee part 1: A brief introduction

So I'm an avid coffee drinker to the point where I think I'm addicted... And that's okay, because coffee is a beautiful plant that gives me endless amounts of energy because it can.
Since I love it so much, and everyone else does too, I decided to educate everyone a little bit about my best friend coffee.
But because there's so much to say about this miracle drink, I've split this edumacation session into 3 parts. Here's part 1:

Mysteries of the universe

There are many mysteries in the world and despite my (genius level) intelligence, there are some things even I don't understand.

Here's a list in no specific order:

  • How Miranda Kerr is such a MILF it's unreal. She gave birth to a child and then was able to go back to the T-stage in a couple of months. Like is she even a human?? Stand aside Thor, your charisma is out shined by Miranda Kerr.
  • The drastic difference between Canadian seasons and how there's virtually no transition between chunks of ice falling out of the sky and skin burning heat. I moved here cause it's supposed to be the land of polar bears and igloos. Yet today, I felt like I was back in the motherland, North Korea
  • The cuteness of dogs and cats... or anything with fur that isn't a humans being. Some people like hairy guys and that's okay. But I think a carpet like torso is weird. It makes me think about whether or not you need to shampoo and condition.. Or perhaps whether or not you can put a weave in that hair. It's all very new to me.
  • How people can choose not to care about social issues even though the definition of social issue is that it affects people. So are people not people?????? I'm talking to you, everyone who scrolls pass those Facebook posts of sad orphaned African children without liking. HAVE YOU NO HEART?

The Quarter Life Crisis

The quarter life crisis is the realization that you are 2 years into "adulthood" and you have no idea where this adulthood starts or where it leads to. Without a starting point, nor a finish line, how do you know where to go and how to get there?? At 20, I don't know what I want to do with my life aside from living comfortably and not being miserable at a sad desolate cubical for the rest of my life.

The impact that it has and why it's important is because it is a personalized blackhole of sadness that exists not that far from your own happy universe waiting for every moment of vulnerability to strike.
Whenever you left your guard down, that black hole's gravitational pull of destruction comes at you and gets you. My quarter life crisis' favourite time to be active is around 1am which is (coincidentally) the time I'm writing this post.

I used to think that the best way to handle the black hole is to let it run it's course, or use it's destructive energy to motivate myself to do better in a really zen TaiChi kind of way. I learned this from Naruto to redirect the flow of Chi in to better outputs.

But as I go through the years using this... Powerful method, it's starting to lose it's effect on me, the same way drugs lose its effect after a continued, habitual use. In a certain perspective, the motivational capabilities of "failure" is kind of similar to drugs: temporary, powerful, and addictive.
So I'm trying to find a more sustainable method of being motivated and focussed which is why I'm trying to invest myself into everything this summer: job, fitness, happiness... In order to find myself.

This is getting really cheesy, so here:

3 Reasons why I hate summer

There are a couple things that I hate in the world marginally less than slow walkers on the sidewalk and a little bit more than war and world hunger: bugs, eyeliner smudges, and the sun (not in that order ofc). To my dismay, those things all occur during summer.

The sun:
Ahhh yes, the sun -- my oldest enemy. Besides stairs and physical activity, I can count the sun as my worst nemesis. What other object in the world drains my energy like kryptonite so effectively since it's really unavoidable unless you stay indoors??? Only the sun can achieve such an impact on my body. I become the walking dead (show reference to be noted) and roam the streets, stumbling on things more often than what is deemed regular because I can't see. Nothing can stop the sun from coming into my eyes and causing them to water. Want to be attractive in summer??? That's impossible when I'm constantly in a daze with my eyes closed as I walk down the streets.
It also doesn't help that I sweat like the condensed 300lb man that I am. Thank the gods that I don't smell or else it would be a disaster.
To make things worse, I don't know if people can relate, but because of my hair colour, it absorbs heat like it's nobody's business. It's so crazy that I think you can probably fry something on my head.
I'm considering going blonde.

Makeup:
As a follow up to heat and sweating, my makeup melts off during the day. It's disgusting and I'm probably the only one that experiences this since every LA blogger looks perfect all the time even at Coachella, being outdoors the entire day. It's probably just me and my weird pores that somehow secrete more oil when it's covered. Especially with eyeliner, it doesn't matter how waterproof it is, it's going to smudge. Mascara does too since my eyelashes point downwards...
UGH.
And I'm too lazy for touch ups throughout the day, so what ends up happening is I turn from normal basic girl to the grudge.
Maybe I should abandon the lost cause of trying to look presentable and embrace the natural look with an edgy twist -- by actually going barefaced.

The bugs:
Okay, I take back my statement about the sun being my worst enemy.
Bugs.
Bugs are the worst. Why do they exist, and in swarms??? Me being the uncoordinated and unequipped with reflexes person that I am, can't dodge gnat swarms when I see them too late, so I get a face full of them every time I go out past 6pm. Sometimes if I'm not careful, I get them in my eyes too. The struggle is so real.
But the bug issue doesn't end there. There are also mosquitoes, the bane of my existence. Vampires in a smaller more deadly and annoying form. Instead of being shiny and angsty, these blood suckers leave you with gigantic splotches of itchiness and agony.
I need to get a hazmat suit to get away from these disgusting spawn of satan.

Not to mention there's also the need to wear shoes that are open toed. Flipflops and sandals are disgusting because your feet are exposed to the dust and dirt of the world.
Also the birds that chirp at 7am in the morning, way before my bedtime.
Did I talk about the humidity yet??? You can practically drown in the morning moisture.

Why is summer still a thing??

I am a firm supporter of the Ice Age 2-- the movie was hilarious.

Cindy's summer dream: The Porn Star Body

So I wanted to elaborate on my summer goal of the "porn star body" and why I wanted to achieve it since it seems so explicit and every time I mention it, people look at me weirdly. In my opinion, the porn star body is the new model body. Before, I think the ideal cover girl, unrealistic, physical standards for women where thigh gaps and ribs... but now, the ideal body type is boobs and ass.

Not just any boobs, but perky, perfectly shaped "natural" boobs, and squishy, round, bouncy ass. That's the standard, and I'm down with it because it gives something to work towards :')
Especially since ass can be developed by squats-- well, that's my hope anyways.

That's the benefit and merit of the "porn star body". Unbeknownst to the general public, the adult film stars featured in those risqué videos work hard at the gym for that sculpted body and when you see it in action, it's unphotoshopped. So in a way, that's the most natural body ideal. (read: I'm ignoring the surgical enhancements that some.. not all, choose to buy).

Yushi doesn't agree. Her ideal body type is the flat as a board and curved like a square look. I think this is the symptom of the "grass is always greener" mentality. Because I am living that body type and I can tell you that not having curves is a PAIN.

The picture is censored because the internet does not allow child pornography and thus my body, which resembles that of a 12 year old boy, must be hidden from the innocent internet community.
My boyfriend can vouch.
"You're a boy." Jason, W., 2015
With this body of mine: lack of boobs, no hips, unusually wide shoulders for my body, no waist, disproportionately large thighs-- it makes for difficult clothes shopping. For example:

Problem 1:
There's a large gap between the waist of my pants and my body despite the legs fitting.
Why is this?
Because no hips.

Problem 2:
My shorts ride up on my when I walk no matter how well they fit.
Why is this?
Because no ass.

Problem 3:
I can't ride bicycles or sit on hard chairs too long because:
a. It hurts and,
b. It makes one side of my body numb
Why is this?
Because no ass.

This is just a small sample of my first world, prepubescent body struggles.

So together, let us pray for my transcendence into the realm of curves so that there's "one less boyish boy."  (J.B 2010)

2nd year recap: Cindy

Okay so lots of things changed for me this year and a lot of things stayed the same. And one of the changes that happened for me is physical.

Exhibit A:

Basically, I was a boy last year and this year, somehow, I turned into a girl :')
Me looking back at the transition is similar to the moment when someone gives birth and you expect a boy, but the doctor takes one look at the new born child and exclaims "IT'S A GIRL!". Yeah that's me, and probably my parents reaction when I started putting on makeup and stopped wearing sweats to class. (Which is a weird experience in and of itself since the lazy casual dress culture is non existent in business school)

ANY HOW
Other things that changed:
  • I met YUSHI, my soulmate in life, the other side to my unique, collector's edition coin.
  • Life goals have become more blurry. What are goals when you don't have the means to achieve them
  • A new appreciation for inspirational TedTalks and realizing that they are oddly cultlike
  • Discovering Eugene in Buzzfeed (easily one of the most pivotal moments in my life)
  • Failure, sadness, bad grade..... blahblahblah.. no one really cares
  • The imminent doom that is the job hunting experience
  • Everything about my life :'(
  • Those last three elements have been the same for the past few years-- all a part of my three year quarter life crisis
What else...

Oh, I'm turning 20 so I'm basically ancient now. Practically the same age as Earth itself so that's pretty neat.

Let's talk about manbuns

Well I can't really explain why it's happening, but I know for sure that it is happening. Like the plague working its way through Europe in the Dark Ages, this trend is permeating every aspect of fashion and corrupting every catalog. Buzzfeed (the love of my life) says it's part of the lumber sexual look. But is it really???

Yushi and I question the purpose of this look and all the people that follow it without looking into the process first. What is the point of the small knot on your head that's barely visible? There is no purpose. I can barely see it, and when I do, I question the purpose of life.

But perhaps the purpose of the manbun is the same as the purpose of the ant. It's practically invisible, but when there's a crowd of them, it's weird and unnerving.

I'm being a hater. But as the old saying goes, hater's gotta hate and potaters gotta potate.

Pearl Diver Toronto

Located on 100 Adelaide St., at the heart of Toronto, there's a seafood restaurant called the Pearl Diver. I went there on Thursday this week with Duckie for a mission to try out raw oysters for the first time. I was super nervous about this experience so beforehand, I did my research and found a restaurant that would suit my requirements. I looked at Rody's Oysters and Oyster Boy which are all well known stores that features fresh oysters. They had very good reviews on Yelp... BUT with my investigative techniques I found a couple sources that complained about their service, quality, and price. Anyways, long story short, I chose Pearl Diver and convinced mah man Duckie that it was a good idea.

On the day of, I made reservations for 7pm. I emailed the request at around 4pm and they got back to me within minutes, which was great. Thankfully we made reservations because it was pretty much a full house that night since it's their feature #100for100 night (100 oysters for $100). We were seated and then nothing. It was weird because I expected our server to come within a couple minutes and we also didn't get an oyster menu which was confusing. For the first time oyster goer, we were confused. So we waved someone over and she was confused too. And then she waved someone over and he was confused, but we got our orders taken. It turns out that because the oysters are fresh from the sea, they only feature seasonal ones and they change daily so the choices are displayed on a blackboard they have in the back.

THE FOOD
We ordered:
  • Shucker's Best (dozen oysters)
  • Calamari (starter)
  • PD's Mussels
  • Fish and Chips
That's a lot of food and very expensive which meant that the bill came out to be around $85.

Okay. Starting from the oysters, they came out shucked in a really nice ice platter with lemon, horseradish, and 2 different house sauces. One is more liquidy and the other, a more solid consistency. They were both great but I preferred the lighter one but Duckie liked the other one better.

Anyways, the oysters were great. I liked the bigger ones better than the smaller ones and the clams were terrible. I think the idea is that smaller ones are more concentrated with the flavour of the sea and the sea doesn't taste that great haha. We asked one of our servers and he didn't really know which ones were which but he tried his best and did name a couple. The larger ones were the Beausoliels from New Brunswick. The smaller ones were the Kumomot from Washington. Kusshi is from B.C is also one of the larger ones? They also gave us complementary clams which looked pink and cute. It was a lot less slimy than I expected and I preferred the lemon with horseradish because it was enough to cover any weird sea taste while not being overwhelming. But I am not yet a connoisseur of oysters... so it's whatever. What I'm saying is, don't be scared.

The Calamari was good, but not the best, especially not the portion size. It was so small and overbaked in my humble opinion because I have weirdly sensitive gums that make eating hard things like nuts hurt. Duckie was into the Calamari though. The dip was delicious. We both have had better calamari though so there's that.

I got the PD Mussels and Frites. I typically don't like mussels because they taste kind of weird to me, but these mussels were super good. The broth made everything taste good. It was nice and gingery with a little bit of spice to brighten things up. I liked it. The portion was small though, the shells are deceptive by filling the large bowl... but remember, the only edible portion are the small mussels inside. So if you're going into the store famished, perhaps it's not the best option.

The Fish and Chips are good. Especially the fish. Puffy and well fried. It was well seasoned too. With the house tartar sauce, it was great. Yum Yum. The portion was nice and large. It filled up the starving, giant man duck with fish to spare. So the bang for your buck is this.
OH and the fries. It tasted like sweet potato fried but I don't think it was. But the fries were wonderous. TRULY WONDEROUS. Perfect in every conceivable way. (I don't have pictures because we finished them too quickly)

THE SERVICE
I mentioned a little bit of this before, but it was weird that we got a server that was confused. But he tried and was nice. But we also had a second server that was very informative and very nice... but she only peaked in every once in a while so we don't know whether or not she was our server? It was very weird. I guess between the 2 of them, they were perfect for us.

AMBIANCE
The restaurant was very lively, small, but not cramped. It had the hip bar feel that doesn't make you uncomfortable at all. Everyone there was a lot older though (probably due to the price range) so that made us feel extra young. But that's okay because let the record show that we possess better judgement. The couple beside us decided to challenge the #100for100 deal that Pearl Diver offered and on their second round, they were going to give up. Each round of oysters consists of 30 VERY LARGE oysters. The tight seating arrangements (tight but not cramped) allowed me to eavesdrop very effectively and their defeat was very fulfilling because we were almost going to do the challenge. But alas, age does not equal wisdom.
I jest, but seriously :3

March Madness

As we approach the end of the semester, it becomes more and more clear that all the resumes and job applications we sent out at the beginning of the semester with naïve enthusiasm have been put into the mystical "rejects pile". But here we are, still waiting in hopes that there is still a chance.
They know there's not chance anymore.
The recruited knows that there's no chance anymore.
But us, the neglected rejects are faced with an uncertain future filled with dreams of an employed destiny.

What if this happens?

Ping.

That's the sound of your iPhone alerting you to a new notification. You look at your illuminated screen and see that you have an email from Company X with the subject line, "Interview". In your mind, you can't believe this is happening. All those months of waiting have paid off. Those struggles and the retail therapy that you convinced yourself is worth it can now be paid for by your new job. In your mind, that email might as well have said "Job offer" because you're going to own it.

You open the email to confirm the date and time, writing it down on your Moleskin planner and recording it on your phone. You start to review everything about the company because you want to get into the employee mindset. You're already starting to be loyal to this company. In your defense, Company X does indeed make the most progressive, technologically advanced..... And they have the most incredibly employee benefits... And they're socially aware. What's there not to love about them?
The meeting is next week and you're getting a little ahead about yourself but that's okay because of course they are going hire you.

You start planning what you're going to wear to the interview. Should you buy another pair of shoes? The old pair doesn't fit with the values of the company. Are they more formal or do they value leisure in attire or maybe utility? Maybe you should go with that blue tie instead of the black one to show your creative soul. The interview is next week but it never hurts to be prepared. You decide that yes to new shoes and the blue tie. And I commend you on your decision.

On the day of, you wake up at 7:30am to get ready even though the interview is at 3pm. But you'll need all the time to go over the notes you prepared, like the pages of prep questions, the business strategy that you've already developed, the new app that you already coded, the flying car you already have the designs for. Your anxiety might show through your enthusiasm but it's okay, nothing a cup of coffee can't help. During all that panic, you realize the time is 2pm and you need at least 30min to get there. GOD HELP YOU WHAT IF YOU ARE LATE.

Rushing out of the house in panic, you wonder if you locked your door, but it's okay as long as you have yo--OH GOD WHERE ARE THE NOTES? You search your bag frantically as you turn back, running towards your house. Thank goodness you found them hidden behind your laptop. But now you're back to square one and you have to run back to the bus stop.

The 30min bus ride went smoothly and you arrive at your destination 30min early.. Right on schedule.  The next 30min, you spend pacing around the block trying to determine where the best food places are, how marvelous the entire downtown, uptown, suburban, factory district is and you love it.
Anxious and jittery, you decide that arriving early for the interview is okay. You enter the building and give the front desk your name, hopefully not sounding too nervous or too eager.
"Have a seat and you can go up in a couple of minutes" She says as she resumes her typing, not even bothering to look at you.

Should you make conversation? Her furrowed brows and pursed lips say you shouldn't. Okay you won't then.

The phone rings at her desk.  "..."
"You may go up now. 2nd floor, right hand side, end of the hall."
"Thanks."

You hurriedly collect your belongings and make your way as gracefully as possible to the second floor. You reach the last door at the end of the hall. Tentatively, you knock on the grand oak doors, too large for this small hallway. Perhaps it is only suitable to fit a giant.

"Come in" a clear voice says from behind the door.

Slowly, you turn the doorknob and push to open the door. However, it doesn't budge. You panic for a moment thinking you did something wrong. This is so embarrassing. Of course this would happen to you on your big day.

"You pull the door", the voice from behind the door guided.
Sheepishly, you pull open the door, you face pink from all the blood rushing to your head from the embarrassment.
Was the room always this hot?

You step inside the office, taking in every detail, noting the person sitting behind the desk and how well they dress.
"No."
"What?' You say in surprise. Perhaps you imagined the sound. But you forgot to be polite and instantly, you begin to blush again.
"Sorry," you hurry to apologize and correct yourself. "I thought you said something."
"No", they say again, this time very distinctive.
"I'm sorry I don't quite understand."
"No." They say again.
"Haha." You laugh nervously, unsure of what to do.
"You didn't get the job."

Now it dawns on you. This, the interview that you were so excited for, was the rumored rejection interview. You fall to the ground, face in your hands, tears streaming down your face as you realize that you must begin the job hunt again.

Things that need to be banned in 2015

In lieu of being the beginning of 2015, and Yushi said I can't do an year end review, here's a list of things that I want banned in 2015:

  • Man buns that are way too tiny
  • The opinion that "as long as it's cool, then it'll look cool on me" mentality (case in point the way too small man bun)
  • AKA bandwagon-ing
  • Kylie Jenner's lips
  • KimYe and their family
  • Bold lips, hair, style, face, eyebrows, necklace, shoes, choices
  • Republicans
  • Democrats that act like Republicans
  • Miley Cyrus (I think she's cool)
  • Our obsession with celebrities and socialites
  • The word "fleek". It's catchy, but so's herpes
  • Complaining about things because complaints are annoying

But last but not least:

Yushi's list:

"I want haters like Cindy to be banned. Because all they do is hate and don't appreciate"

Cindy & Yushi

A 'Furious' Review

This is a Furious 7 review brought to you by Cindy and her opinions.
TL;DR:
Don't watch this movie if you don't like to have a good time.

Let's get this started.
I watched Furious 7 in theatres in Imax, the day before it was supposed to come out (April 3rd) which was weird, because I thought the premier date is the date in which the first showing happens. I guess it's more of a suggestion. I'm going to break down this movie into 3 parts: plots, likes, and dislikes. I'll probably throw in a rant here and there for my own venting purposes. Let me just note that I am in no way being satirical.

PLOT:
The movie is set in the timeline after the events of Tokyo Drift and Hong's death. I never quite understood why the producer/director/decision makers decided to make that choice for going back in time... Whatever maybe it was contractual obligations to Hong??? Because they're making all of their viewers go "huh?". Let's be real. You don't want to think when going into these movies.
Anyways. Jason Statham is the bad guy in this film to give Furious 7 the more testosterone it needs to become a REAL action movie/s. His character is the brother of the bad guy in the last movie, which Dominic Toretto's team put in the hospital, so now big brother is out for revenge. Jason Statham's character kills Hong, and now Dominic Toretto and his team is out for revenge. The way for them to have their ultimate, city destroying show down is through obtaining the software called Heaven's Eye.
That's basically the gist of what happens. Yeah there are some other things, but…

Likes:
To put it simply, I liked everything. Anti Fast and Furious -ers willpoint out all the flaws of FF and say that it's "IMPOSSIBLE". Well, do you go and point at Harry Potter and tell me that's impossible too? Oh yeah that car can't fly cause physics. IF you wanted the real world show, then just go outside and sit on your porch and just enjoy the world. But me, like many movie goers are there for the experience and adrenaline that you can't quite get anywhere else. I'm living the life of Dominc Toretto through the big screen, driving ridiculous cars, flying between buildings, being invincible... Everything about FF makes you want to crave that kind of excitement. Their extravagant yet grounded lives that are bound by family values are presented every second through out the movie by Vin Diesel's tough man drawl. The music and the scene cuts of scantily dressed women describe the perfect Cancun frat party but the occasion is so much more. They're gathered there to celebrate "expert driving" and genius engineering. There's an art to the world of racecars. Perhaps FF is a parody of that F1 world, but that doesn't mean it's an invalid art form in itself. Also, the people who point on that this movie doesn't follow physics or there are too many gears or "why are there never any cars on the roads?" are the same people who point out that there are African children dying of starvation when you can't finish your food. Why can't we just have nice things.

The difference between the FF franchise and the Transformers franchise is that FF stuck to what it did well. FF is the combination nice cars, hot girls, and rap music without taking itself too seriously. Transformers however has this weird ego that comes with Michael Bay movies where it takes itself too seriously and forgot it's specialty which is shiny cars that turned into bad ass robots. Instead, it has become a patriotic "let's vaguely save the world with 3 guys" kind of film. If I were to pose an analogy then at a party, Expendables is the reserved veteran who has killed people, FF is the quiet guy you know will hurt you if you mess with him, and Transformers is the douche who is yelling for people to fight him. Real manliness is within the first two films.

I also say that the Fast and Furious franchise has more testosterone though because if we say that the Expendables is the manliest testosterone filled movie, then we are simplifying men and their many facets. Testosterone is also sex drive and DAMMMMN is Furious 7 sexy. From the women, to the music, to the cars, to the explosions... Everything was catered to the male audience. It was a beautiful masterpiece that Michael Bay movies can't compare to.

This movie had it all:
  • Ridiculous muscle humour that Dwayne Johnson brings into the Franchise
  • A hot hacker who is not Ludacris
  • Bumpin' music
  • Ridiculous stunts (they jump between 2 buildings.. In a car... By driving it)
  • Manly sentiments
  • Weird Vin Diesel angles that make him look kind of like a potato head

Dislikes:
I wouldn't have minded more imports (models, cars...) but it was only 2 hours.
